Description

The Master's program in Chemistry prepares chemists for a wide range of professions in chemical industry, such as research and development in the public and private sectors, various expert positions, and sales and marketing positions in the field of chemical industry. Chemistry teacher education prepares chemistry teachers for upper secondary schools, primary schools and other educational institutions. The field of chemistry provides the prerequisites for further studies in the field of doctoral studies. The Master of Science degree requires as prior studies a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent.

Learning outcomes

Scientific Knowledge Objectives:

Knowledge: The MSc (master of science) masters the basic theories of chemistry and is familiar with other disciplines, key theories and backgrounds, and current trends in research. Skills: the MSc is able to apply what he/she has learned in problem solving in solving and dealing with problems in their discipline. MSc will be able to critically evaluate research in their chosen field and produce scientific thinking based research. He / she is able to report expertly. Attitudes: The MSc is interested in applying the methods of his/her discipline to problem solving and understands the importance of continuous learning. 

Professional Skills:

Knowledge: The MSc recognizes and understands the job roles and job descriptions in chemistry across organizations. He / she can apply his / her knowledge when working in industry, companies and other communities and organizations. He / she is able to follow developments in chemistry and other disciplines and to complement his/her expertise. Skills: The MSc is capable of independent problem solving. He / she has the prerequisites for acting as an expert. He / she is able to organize work tasks and is capable of independent and responsible activities and decision making. He / she is able to design chemical test protocols and research projects. He / she has the capacity to acquire new knowledge and create new solutions to respond to changing and new situations in their disciplines. Attitudes: The MSc has the capacity to follow developments in the field of chemistry, to acquire new knowledge and to find solutions to changing problems and challenges in the field of chemistry. The MSc is familiar with working practices in the field and understands the importance of regulations and agreements.

Social Learning Objectives:

Knowledge: The MSc has a broad understanding of how science and industry relate to society and the everyday life. MSc can justify the importance of his/her field. Skills: The Master will be able to work as an expert in working groups, professional groups and scientific groups, and will be able to communicate his / her skills to different target groups in a foreign language if needed. Attitudes: The MSc is cooperative and ready to take responsibility.

Ethical Learning Objectives:

Knowledge: The MSc understands the ethical issues in his or her discipline and understands the different approaches and principles involved. Skills: In practice, the MSc recognizes the ethical issues in his or her discipline, is able to find justifications for them and is able to apply ethically sustainable solutions to them. Attitudes: The MSc takes a serious approach to ethical issues, adheres to ethical principles and strives to further develop them.
