Description

The Bachelor's Degree programme in Biology includes the study of biomolecules, cells, organisms, populations, communities and ecosystems. Students learn basic information about organismal structure and function. In the broadly-based program, you learn the basics and can specialize in two fields: ecology and evolutionary biology, and cell and molecular biology. By studying ecology and evolutionary biology, you become familiar with not only DNA and individual levels, but also processes happening in populations By studying cell and molecular biology, you will be familiar with cells, organelles, as well as the structure and function of cellular molecules and genomes. These fields are important for the study of natural diversity, species identification, evolution, ecology, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology as well as genetics and biotechnology.  You will build your own expertise so that you are well-versed and have the ability to apply your knowledge in future studies of a Master's program.

Learning outcomes

The Bachlor's degree prepares students for working collegially. Graduates are eager to apply their knowledge, appreciate professional skills and wants to continue their professional development.

Graduates understand:

  • basic phenomena of life,
  • the principles underlying scientific research,
  • good scientific practices and ethical principles,
  • sufficiently the field's knowledge and skills that will allow them to pursue advanced studies in national or international masters degree programmes,
  • multidisciplinary knowledge and methods that stengthen understanding of the main study subject,
  • the relevance of the field and its study to society.

Graduates are able to:

  • acquire, learn and organize information critically and objectively , in particular the scientific texts of the field.
  • apply their knowledge and use central methods and tools, as well as evaluate their use of those data, methods and tools.
  • plan, execute, analyze, and report their findings in a small-scale scientific research project.
  • follow good scientific practice and ethical principles as well as work-safety norms.
  • communicate effectively, but in oral and written formats.
  • Graduates of the Bachelor's Degree programme in Biology knows the subject broadly , from biomolecules, cells, organisms, genetics and evolutionary biology .
  • Graduates of the Bachelor's Degree programme in Biology knows central methods, including for example, bioinformatics.
