Doctoral studies (40 ECTS credits) include the following modules:

1) Discipline-Specific Studies 20 ECTS credits, which consists of the following study units:

  • HYTJ1000 Doctoral Seminar 10 ECTS credits
  • Studies in the Discipline 5 ECTS credits
  • Research Method Studies 5 ECTS credits

2) Researcher Skills Studies 5 ECTS credits, which consists of the following study units:

  • Research Ethics Studies 2 ECTS credits
  • Open Science Studies 1 ECTS credit
  • Academic Writing Studies 2 ECTS credits

3) Optional Studies 15 ECTS credits

Learning outcomes

After completing a doctoral degree in the fields of humanities or social sciences, students

  • master research skills
  • are familiar with the central research and academic discourse relevant to their own research topic
  • demonstrate command of their field of research, including its development as well as theoretical and methodological starting points
  • are able to produce new, research-based scientific knowledge
  • understand the multidimensional character of scientific knowledge and recognise the global responsibility of research activities
  • are able to evaluate ethical questions at the various phases of the research process and work ethically and according to the responsible conduct of research
