Tweet text
Description
The course delves into the theoretical foundations of sustainability communication and explores various perspectives on responsibility and sustainability communication through practical examples. Topics include corporate citizenship, sustainability reporting, corporate activism, and stakeholder dialogue. Regarding responsible communication and communication ethics, the course reflects on the delineation between the ethics of marketing, communication, and journalism.
Sustainability communication is linked to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as it goes beyond mere reporting and informing. It actively promotes sustainable development and helps build a responsible corporate culture. Sustainability communication fosters transparency, raises awareness, and encourages responsible action at all levels of society. Companies can highlight their commitment to ethical practices, transparency in working conditions, and social responsibility through sustainability communication, thus contributing to the advancement of decent work and economic growth (SDG 8). Additionally, sustainability communication supports responsible consumption and production (SDG 12) when companies communicate their sustainable practices, circular economy solutions, and environmentally friendly products, inspiring consumers to make sustainable choices. As part of sustainability communication, companies share information about their climate actions and efforts to reduce their carbon footprint, thus contributing to society's transition towards sustainable energy and climate goals (SDG 13). Through sustainability communication, organizations can underscore their dedication to ethical business practices, transparency, and fairness, thereby building trust among stakeholders and society (SDG 16). An integral aspect of sustainability communication is supporting companies in listening to stakeholders and building partnerships to achieve shared sustainable goals (SDG 17).
Through the themes and tasks of the course, students develop critical thinking, consideration of various perspectives, and argumentation skills.
