Content

This course explores the multimodality and diversity of meaning-making in different social and mediated settings. Perspectives and tools for analysing multimodal data will be introduced and discussed.

Active participation in class, oral presentation of the project work and a written report. More detailed assessment criteria will be provided in the first meeting of the course.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the students should be able to

  • apply multimodal discourse analysis (MDA) theories across a variety of modes and genres
  • critically examine, analyze, and assess multimodal modes comparatively in the local and global contexts
  • utilize multimodal 21st century competences gained from this course in a variety of work and academic contexts
