MONP1001 Critical thinking and knowledge production (3 cr)

Content
In this course the students will familiarise themselves with critical thinking and knowledge production as well as knowledge processing in relation to the studies and working life skills of a language expert. The course provides the students with the ability to understand the linguistic base of contemporary expert work and develops critical literacy skills and discourse skills.

Assessment details
Completion of the learning assignments (in groups as well as independently), active participation to lectures and group work (80% attendance is required).
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student
- is able to observe language and its role in knowledge production and assessment, critical thinking and problem solving a
- recognises the significance of critical thinking, critical literacy and discourse skills as parts of the working-life toolkit of a language expert
has gained ability to assess, process and produce knowledge critically and to format knowledge for different audiences
understands the principles of scientific knowledge and can differentiate it from common knowledge
can search for information in research literature and websites in specific fields
Additional information
There is a self-study package available for this course. However, major students of languages are recommended to select contact teaching as method. The self-study package is suitable for minor students or those who have changed their programme.
