This independent study option (book exam) focuses on teaching oral skills in a foreign language. Students will learn about current theoretical and practical perspectives into teaching oral skills, which will equip them with knowledge applicable to teacher’s profession.

After studying the books students will be able to:

  • explain key concepts and essential terminology related to second language pronunciation and oral skills
  • adopt a broad approach to pronunciation and oral skills as phenomena, including listening as a flip-side of the coin
  • discuss and evaluate methods in teaching pronunciation and oral skills
  • apply current perspectives and research findings (presented in the books) into teaching pronunciation and oral skills

Description of prerequisites

Compulsory prerequisites: EKIP1010 Spoken Communication/EKIP1001 Pronunciation and Oral Skills and EKIA1020 Communication Skills for Teachers/EKIA152 Oral Communication (teachers). 

Recommended prerequisites: EKIA3010 Teaching English Today/EKIA315 Current Issues in Teaching English.
