Description
The course introduces philosophical thinking relevant for considering environmental questions and explores how societal norms, cultural conceptions and values relate to achieving sustainability and planetary well-being. Individual values, choices and responsibilities are discussed in relation to broader cultural values.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student:
- Can recognise the influence of cultural values and conceptions on the norms relating to ecological issues and can reflect on these in relation to moral philosophy.
- Can describe humanities and social science approaches to environmental and sustainable development issues.
- Can explain the relations between planetary well-being and cultural phenomena, conceptions, values and ethical standpoints.
