Description

The module on Language Education offers the opportunity to explore language education from different pedagogical, cultural and linguistic perspectives. This module brings together expertise on the use of language in subject pedagogies, different forms of bilingual education as well as different ways in which students learn and develop their use of language as individuals and members of education communities. This module includes key considerations for teachers and educational developers and draws on different perspectives that inform the development of language education including the use of literature, cultural and intercultural questions and linguistic landscapes.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the specialisation module in Language and Education the student will

  • to gain a critical understanding of different forms of bilingual education.
  • to develop a critical perspective on the potential of language and culture across education.
  • to develop the pedagogical competence to plan, deliver and evaluate language aware education.
  • the ability to support the development of linguistically sensitive educational communities.
