Welcome to have a glimpse of Chinese traditions, philosophical thought and social practices.

Course description
This course introduces students to Chinese social values and practices through a touch on Chinese history and traditions.
Main content
The course will
- walk students through a sketch of Chinese history
- introduce students to a basic understanding of Chinese traditional philosophies and ideologies that have a lasting impact upon Chinese society such as Confucianism, Daoism and Sun Tzu ’s Art of War
- provide students with opportunities to explore a variety of traditions and customs common in contemporary Chinese society
- cover useful Chinese business philosophical notions such as “Guanxi” and “Mianzi”
- provide practical tips of business etiquette including table manners, gift giving traditions etc.
Learning outcomes
On the completion of the course, the student is expected to
- be aware of different aspects of Chinese traditions and practices
- be able to develop a basic understanding of contemporary society and life in China
- learn to act and interact more confidently with Chinese people both in social and business contexts.
