Course description
This course provides a comprehensive examination of the intertwined histories, political landscapes, and societal structures of Latin America and Spain. Through a series of lectures and a multimodal approach, students will explore the diverse cultures, historical and political events that have shaped these regions. Students will develop a deeper understanding of the complexities and nuances inherent in the history and contemporary dynamics of Latin America and Spain.
Classes divided into five parts: Spain, Mexico, Caribbean, Andes, and Southern Cone. Each part corresponds to a cultural region.
Learning outcomes
On the completion of the course, the student is expected to
identify and analyze key historical and political events that have influenced the development of Latin America and Spain, showcasing an understanding of their interconnected histories
be able to critically examine the contemporary history and social complexity of Spain and Latin America
- identify the links between different Latin American cultures through analysis and reflection
- be able to communicate appropriately in Spanish about Latin American and Spanish history, politics and society
