Course description
This course provides opportunities to develop oral and written academic English skills in a multicultural and multilingual environment. Through individual and group work, the course covers conventions and cultural considerations associated with spoken production, oral interaction, and critical evaluation of sources. Typical tasks include delivering a presentation, working in teams, reading and discussing research or reports, and academic language development activities.

On completion of this course, students are expected to:
locate, identify and critically analyse academic texts from their fields,
be aware of the structure of academic texts and use that knowledge to enhance their own academic writing,
purposefully present research in a well-structured and accessible manner both orally and in written form, taking the audience into account,
give and receive constructive feedback to reflect on their strengths and areas of development as a communicator of English,
reflect on the challenges and opportunities of working in multicultural and multidisciplinary groups
