Description

This course provides an ideal backdrop for those doctoral students who seek the productive environment of a two-day writing workshop. Students can choose which piece of their dissertation they wish to focus on, but the instructor will provide a supportive framework for the writing process. The workshop will entail reflection and sharing of writing goals, peer feedback checkpoints and short info sessions on topical academic writing issues based on students’ needs. The workshop is designed to simulate effective and creative academic writing, thus helping participants to apply these strategies when working independently on their dissertation after the course.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, participants are expected to…

  • approach academic writing as a creative writing process
  • show awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses as academic writers
  • be better equipped to effectively process and produce text independently
  • master a range of different strategies which they can adopt for their own writing routines
