Description
The course explores the global environmental crises of climate change and biodiversity loss, their causes and historical development pathways. The course will also explore international agreements on sustainable development and environmental and nature conservation, the global challenges in achieving sustainable development, and the concept of planetary well-being.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student:
- Can explain the root causes, mechanisms and possible consequences of climate change and biodiversity loss.
- Can in broad terms describe the impact humans have had on ecosystems and climate from prehistory to the present day, and the societal processes, values, norms and regional differences underlying these effects.
- Can explain the concept of planetary well-being and why/what it is needed for.
- Can justify the importance of interdisclipinary approach when studying sustainability problems.
