WETS1048 Fish biology and ecology (3–5 cr)
Tweet text
Description
Concepts and mechanisms of fish biology, ecology and physiology, introduction to methods in fish biology
Learning outcomes
By completing the course, the students will understand what kind of special anatomical, physiological, and life-history characteristics fish have for living in freshwater and saline aquatic environments. Students understand basic physiological concepts and be able to describe the most common processes related to metabolism and internal physiological (digestive, sensory, nervous and endocrine) systems in fishes. They understand basic concepts of life-history theory, know common life-history strategies of fishes and how fish life-history characteristics can be applied to conservation and exploitation of fish stocks. They understand the effects of abiotic and biotic factors on fish ecology, such as feeding, reproduction and behavior and can perform simple physiological measurements and communicate the results correctly.
