The course covers issues such as how health, illness and suffering are perceived; why certain health behaviors are being practiced in a given community; what kind of traditional features can be seen in health care across different parts of the world; and how the concept of integrative medicine has emerged. Culture becomes an eye-glass through which a medical anthropologist sees these phenomena in a society. Through the subject of medical anthropology a bilateral connection develops between general public and the scientific community. It can contribute to better understanding of public health objectives from the societal point of view, and it may in part translate scientific knowledge into effective practice at the community level.
