TILS801 Statistical consulting (2–4 cr)
Description
The course introduces students to statistical consulting through practical work. A degree student in statistics and data science participating in the course will be assigned one or more master’s or doctoral students from an applied field who have their own research question and related data. The statistics and data science student guides the applied-field student in statistical modeling and the use of software. A consulting diary is kept during the consulting process.
Learning outcomes
The student of statistics learns to understand research questions and data from a particular application area, to share his/her knowledge in an understandable way, to interpret an empirical question in statistical terms, and to explain a statistical solution in general terms.
Additional information
The number of credits is determined by the amount of work spent on consulting.
The course is organized in a seminar format every four years or less frequently. In this case, the students from the application areas participate in the course TILS1600. Possible alternative modes of implementation will be announced separately.
