This course is offered through the Network for FYSNET. These studies are available for bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree students studying in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science and the Faculty of Information Technology.

Description
Basics of radio astronomy, methods of analysis, and research at wavelengths ranging from sub-millimeter to kilometer waves: quasars, pulsars, transients, molecular clouds, and solar. Main current and future radio instrumentation, space-based and ground-based. Theory and practice of interferometric imaging, both astronomical and solar.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student will have basic knowledge of radio astronomy and interferometric imaging. The student will understand how single dish and interferometric observations are done, how radio data can be analysed, and also understand the technical limitations. The student will know the main radio sources on the sky, understand how their emission is created, and how they can be best observed.

Description of prerequisites
The knowledge of Fourier transforms and basics of emission mechanisms are recommended prerequisites.
