Description
This course will cover different aspects of quantum magnetism, including:
- The origin and form of magnetic interactions in solids, their breadth, and numerical approaches for their estimation
- Magnetic excitations in different models; spin-waves, spinons, etc. - and the measurements that detect them
- Gentle introduction to gauge theories for quantum spin states; the zoo of excitations and spin-liquid classifications
Learning outcomes
After passing the course students should:
- Have a sound understanding of the origin of magnetic interactions in the solid-state.
- Understand the theoretical models and numerical approaches used for the estimation.
- Understand the consequences of electronic interactions in materials.
- Have a basic understanding of gauge theories for quantum states.
- Have a general understanding of the spin-liquid classifications and currently relevant topics in quantum magnetism.
