MUSS057 Musical Creativity (5 cr)
Description
The course introduces students to the different aspects of musical creativity from a research perspective and explores the theoretical background and trends of creativity research. The course gives participants a comprehensive overview of musical creativity by introducing theories and research results, and discusses the relationship between musical creativity and other forms of creative activity, such as science or the arts.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student will be able to
analyze, compare and critically evaluate different theories of creativity, and understand their significance in relation to musical behavior
examine different musical traditions creative activities, and evaluate the possibilities for researching these phenomena
compare the specific features of musical creativity in relation to other artistic and scientific creativity
understand their own musical experiences within the context of theories on creativity
communicate research topics of the field in Finnish or English.
