Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course the student will

- have knowledge of the development of reading and writing skills in the Finnish context

- understand the differences between orthographies that have an effect on the development of reading and writing skills

- understand the role of multiliteracies and language awareness as a part of the curriculum and pedagogy in the Finnish educational system from early childhood education to secondary education

- understand the role of motivation in literacy skills development

- understand the role of formative assessment as a part of literacy instruction and pedagogy of multiliteracies
