LPSS1006 Developing Behavior Change Interventions (6 cr)
Description
In this course, students will apply the theoretical knowledge learned in the LPSS1004 Advanced knowledge of exercise psychology to solving a real-world behavior change problem. This will involve planning all aspects of a novel behavior change intervention using the Intervention Mapping procedure.
Modes of study
Independent reading,
lectures with group discussions (15h), homework assignments, collaborative
group work, group presentations, group final paper.
Evaluation
Active participation in lectures and completion of homework assignments (30%); Final Presentation (30%); Final Paper (40%).
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course, students should be able to
- undertake a needs assessment that identifies a targeted behavioral change that would help achieve desired societal outcomes.
- use theory and evidence to identify important determinants of the target behavior.
- use theory and evidence to systematically select behavior change techniques for changing the target behavior.
- packagsee selected behavior change techniques into a coherent behavior change intervention program.
- develop detailed plans for scientifically evaluating the outcomes and processes of the intervention.
- develop plans for broadly implementing the intervention in different contexts.
