Description
• Study methods for soil fauna, microbes, fungi, roots
• Forest soil as a habitat for soil organisms
• Different soil organism groups and their role in the carbon, nitrogen and mineral nutrient cycle
• The impact of forest management on soil organisms and their functioning
Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student
• is familiar with the core methods to study soil organism groups and has gained practical experience of (some of) those
• understands the role of soil as a habitat for different organism groups
• is able to apply her/his learning to manage forest soil for biodiversity and productivity
The course develops the following generic skills: sustainability and responsibility, critical thinking, identification and development of expertise, interaction and communication.

The course is taught every two years (in the spring of the odd year).
