Description
Basic lab procedures and sample handling. Immunohistochemistry and microscopy. Gene and protein expression in skeletal muscle.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student:
-is familiar with muscle sample handling and basics of pipetting
-learns fundamentals of cell and molecular biology research methods
-learns basic principles of tissue-level protein and messenger-RNA analysis methodology
-can explain sample preparation for various analysis methods
-understands key omics-methodology
-is able to perform key methodologies under instruction in future where required
-can describe strength and weaknesses of different methods and knows methodological factors influencing results
-can apply gained methodological knowledge to physical activity and exercise physiology
-learns to work as a responsible member of the research team
Additional information
Pre-assignment in Moodle before the first lab demo.
Active participation in lab practice, learning of material and compiling report(s).
4th year, Spring. Period III-IV.
