LACS9999 Maturity Test (0 cr)
Description
Content
The maturity test is a demonstration of a student’s familiarity with the subject matter of the thesis written for the degree, as well as of a good command of academic writing style. At the same time, students who have completed their school education in Finnish or Swedish demonstrate their excellent language skills in the language of their school education.
As a rule, the maturity test is completed in English in English-medium degree programmes. An exception are students who have completed their school education in Finnish or Swedish but have not demonstrated their skills in the aforementioned languages through the maturity test of their bachelor’s degree. These students complete their maturity test in the language of their school education. Otherwise, as a rule, the language of the maturity test is English.
Completion methods
The abstract that is by default included in the beginning of the Master’s thesis acts as the maturity exam, and no separate language evaluation is needed. Thus, when the grade for your Master’s thesis is registered in Sisu, you will also simultaneously receive the PASS mark for the maturity exam with the same date as the thesis. If you are a Finnish student and have NOT completed a maturity exam in your previous studies, you will have to take an actual exam from where the language (Finnish or Swedish) is evaluated separately.
Learning outcomes
In the maturity test, the student
- demonstrates familiarity with the subject of the thesis
- demonstrates Finnish, Swedish or English proficiency.
