KUMP003 Culture as Concept and Phenomenon (5 cr)
Description
During the course, students examine culture as a theoretical concept and its position, use and importance in people’s everyday lives and social activities, as well as communities as a unifying and a differentiating factor. In addition, students reflect on the importance of culture in shaping the relationship between past and present.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will:
understand the diversity of culture as an academic, political and guiding concept
understand the differences and commonalities in concepts of culture
be able to critically examine cultural phenomena and their significance and
have an idea of how cultural concepts are used in research within the framework of the degree programme and in related disciplines.
