What ethical issues are involved in teaching? Is it possible to educate for good? You will reflect on controversial issues from different viewpoints.

Description

Basic concepts and theories in (professional) ethics,
indoctrination and the paradox of education, possibilities and limits of individual autonomy, justice and equity, main approaches in moral and sustainable education, controversial issues in education, ethical issues in assessment as well as children’s and disabled people’s rights and status

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to

- analyse central concepts and theoretical viewpoints related to the (professional) ethics of education
- evaluate various approaches in ethical and sustainable education and apply them in their own work
- compare arguments and counter-arguments related to various ethical questions
- critically evaluate their values, moral views, and (professional) ethical principles
