Description

This module provides students with an understanding of the fundamental principles, practices, issues and debates associated with the organizational design. Students will be introduced to frameworks, concepts and theories related to organizational design to help explain how managers’ deal with the great diversity of issues faced in effectively managing contemporary organizations. The main themes of this course are: basics of organizational theory and design; strategy and organizational design; organizing global companies; inter-organizational networks and organizational structure; managing change in organizational design; designing socially responsible, digital, and entrepreneurial organizations; and design of future organizations.  

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the main theories of organizational design
  • Understand relation of strategy with organizational design
  • Develop understanding of internal and external factors managers face while designing organizational structures
  • Learn the process of designing organizational structure with emphasis on socially responsible, digital, and entrepreneurial organizations
  • Acquire analytical skills and skills in critical thinking which can be applied to management and business issues at a local and global level
  • Recognize some of the fundamental ethical dilemmas in organizations
  • Improve and develop his/her skills of self-organization, formal presentation, teamwork, communication and working with others
  • Engage effectively in discussion by making pertinent and constructive comments on relevant topics
