Tools for understanding and executing strategy

Description

The key task in strategic management is to understand the path from an organization’s strategic vision and contextual factors to its choices and finally to performance (whether profitability, survival, public good or any target). The course helps to understand the conceptual and causal underpinning of modern strategic thought by walking through elemental and often competing perspectives of strategy: what it is and how it occurs at the level of industries, firms, and decision-makers.

Learning outcomes

The aim of this course is to offer insights and frameworks to analyze and understand such issues as organizational survival, industry evolution, dethronement processes, the role of top management and business dynamics in general. After the course, students are familiar with the strategy discourse, learn different approaches to strategy analysis, and have capabilities to critically evaluate ‘strategy talk’ that has infused not only modern organizations but increasingly media and daily practices.
