Description

The doctoral dissertation must be based on independent research and constitute a harmonious scientific study in the doctoral student’s field of research.

Language of the dissertation can be Finnish, Swedish, English, French, German or Russian, or another language approved by the Faculty.

A pass requires a dissertation that is approved by the Faculty Council.

The grading scale is fail - sufficient - satisfactory - good - very good - excellent (0–5).

Learning outcomes

The doctoral student
  • knows the phases of the research process and is able to act appropriately and ethically in them
  • is able to plan and implement research on the chosen topic logically, responsibly and ethically
  • is familiar with the main theories and methods relevant to the topic
  • is able to present and defend the research results clearly and evaluate their significance
