The course explores various forms of digital work through the lens of multiculturalism and multilingualism.

Description

This course gives an overview of platform-based and entrepreneurial digital work as a diverse and increasingly significant form of expert work. It discusses digital work as an aspect of the ways in which work is changing in post-industrial societies, highlighting the risks and opportunities that language and communication specialists should understand and consider regarding online collaboration and digital work.

We explore various forms of digital work through the lens of multiculturalism and multilingualism involved in such work contexts, raising awareness of multiliteracy practices and tools used in such contexts, involving interaction with collaborators and stakeholders. 

Learning outcomes

After this course, the student will have knowledge and understanding about:

  • platform-based, collaborative and entrepreneurial digital work;
  • various ways in which multiculturalism and multilingualism can be present in digital work;
  • the opportunities and risks of digital work;
  • different areas of language and communication expertise/specialty in digital work;
  • multiliteracies as one manifestation of multilingualism and interculturality in digital work;
  • virtual interaction between human and nonhuman collaborators;
  • management in digital work.
