Description
Vocabulary studies from the point of view of teaching and learning English as a second/foreign language. Overview, development and current situation. Various strategies and methods of learning and teaching vocabulary. Analysis on learner texts from the point of view of vocabulary and applying a chosen teaching method in teaching vocabulary in practice.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the students will be able to
- assess vocabulary studies from the point of view of teaching and learning English as a second/foreign language
- explain and discuss different trends, strategies and methods of learning and teaching vocabulary
- carry out a basic analysis of learner texts from the point of view of vocabulary and assess learners’ vocabulary knowledge
- apply a chosen teaching method in teaching vocabulary in practice

Readings, pair/group work, analysing learner texts, designing and carrying out a teaching experiment in pairs or in small groups.
Evaluation criteria:
Active participation in class, teaching experiment and final paper. Minimum attendance 83%.
