Come learn about writing texts in different genres!

Description

In this course, students will overview, analyze and practice a range of text types in English, as well as specialising in a particular text type of their choice. Classes will consist of presentations (by the teacher and students), group discussion and analytical tasks, and feedback sessions on students' written work. Homework will mainly consist of weekly writing tasks, culminating in a final portfolio of selected texts.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students will be able to:

  • recognise the structural and linguistic features of different text types in English
  • understand the social origins and purposes of written language norms within various genres and contexts
  • produce a range of text types (e.g. commercial, journalistic, technical, creative) following or manipulating genre norms
  • apply the analytical tools acquired on the course to any new text types and contexts encountered in working life
