Learn high quality academic writing, as well as writing for a more general or public audience based on research

Description

This course develops students’ skills of academic writing and aims to equip them with skills needed for writing e.g. a BA or MA thesis. Students will choose a particular topic related to language studies that they wish to learn about. During the course, they will read, discuss and write about that topic, while at the same time investigating the writing norms of the field - the typical language, structures, and arguments of its texts. Along the way, we will also overview and try out practical strategies for reading research articles and writing research reports. Students will also learn to write collaboratively.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course students will be able to:

  • understand the nature and purpose of academic texts and the principles of scientific argumentation
