Description

The course focuses on the identification of terrestrial invertebrates, their morphology, ecology and evolution. The course includes a lot of practical identification in the laboratory using microscopes and identification keys.

Learning outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to

· explain basics of the classification of invertebrate animals.

· use the identification keys of main groups of invertebrates.

· identify invertebrates at least to family level.

· handle preserved wet and dry samples.

· recognize morphological structures used in identification.

· describe main biological and ecological features of invertebrates studied.

· use tools needed in identification.

Description of prerequisites

Basic studies in biological and environmental science and basic identification courses on invertebrates.
