This course is offered through the Network for Doctoral Studies. These studies are available for doctoral degree students studying in the University of Jyväskylä.
Description
The course contains semiannual meetings with the staff of Innovation Centre. The aim is to identify research results that could have commercial potential and should be protected e.g. by a patent or utility model.
Learning outcomes
Building on the foundation of identifying and evaluating research-based business ideas, this course provides PhD students with hands-on experience in refining an idea from their own field. Participants will apply the NABC (Need, Approach, Benefits, Competition) model to conduct a concise business analysis, explore market potential, and practice pitching.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
• Identify a concrete idea from their research field and define its unique value proposition
• Apply the NABC model to validate market need, outline a feasible approach, articulate core benefits, and assess the competitive landscape
• Develop a compelling pitch that resonates with potential collaborators, funders, or stakeholders
• Refine their idea through structured feedback and iterative improvement

Participants of the course must have been completed DP00AS49 Commercialization of research results before enrolling to this course.
