DEVS3016 Managing Development Projects (5 cr)
Description
Basic concepts of development management, stages of project cycle, selected approaches to project planning, monitoring and evaluation such as logical framework and theory of change, budgeting, project documents, and project proposals. Course emphasizes learning by doing and students will conduct hands-on exercises.
Learning outcomes
The course contributes to the DEICO learning outcomes: (3) understand and be able to critically reflect the main project management approaches in international development as well as have ability to use selected approaches in designing development interventions, and (6) be experienced in working and communicating in global teams with members from multiple backgrounds, be able to prepare, conduct and constructively comment presentations and papers for diverse audiences, and be able to organize teamwork practices in an effective and productive manner.
Upon completion of the course students will be familiar with diverse stages and approaches of project cycle management in international development, as well as be experienced in designing a development intervention in a global team, and preparing and presenting a project document targeting especially donor audiences.
