Introduction to Teaching

Description

Doctoral students will be introduced to the department’s degree programs, teaching goals and procedures. The course will include a brief overview of pedagogical methods and instruction on how to participate in pedagogical training, as well as how to maintain a teaching portfolio to document their teaching experience. Students will also participate in teaching development activities in the department. Discussion panel with teachers in the department will allow students to understand more about experiences teaching at the University level. Tips for work-life balance among University teachers are presented and discussed.  

Learning outcomes

  • be introduced to different teaching methods used in BIOENV

  • become familiar with resources for developing teaching skills available at the University

  • become familiar with degree programs in BIOENV, departmental teaching goals and procedures

  • understand what is required of student teachers in the department

  • be introduced to methods for maintaining well-being and work-life balance as a teaching researcher.
