Description
Students will learn basic techniques in molecular microbiology through lectures and working in the laboratory. Students will learn principle techniques of recombinant-DNA -technology including DNA extraction, PCR, cloning and sequencing. Students will also learn to compare their obtained data to sequence databanks.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, the student
- has basic skills to perform DNA-techniques in practice.
- understands steps in recombinant-DNA techniques, and the relevance of control reactions.
- has basic knowledge on Sanger sequencing, sequence data analysis and bioinformatic search.
- knows the general practices in writing lab book and lab reports.

Attendance is compulsory. Grading is based on working in laboratory, laboratory logbook, report and exam. More specific assessment criteria will be given at the beginning of the course.
