Description
Concept, its history and global patterns of biodiversity. Overview of the main threats and mechanisms affecting biodiversity loss. Consequences of biodiversity loss in all levels of biological hierarchy. Methods for halting biodiversity loss. Current species and habitat type specific issues with a Finnish perspective.
Learning outcomes
Students know the central concepts of biodiversity, threats to it globally and locally, and basic theory and applications for the conservation of biodiversity.
