Description
The ICT for Development (ICT4D) course aims to build awareness on development challenges and the role of appropriate information and communication technologies in fostering inclusive and sustainable socio-economic progress. Introducing the field of Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D), the course examines the role of digital technologies in various development contexts and explores how ICT can contribute to social, economic, and sustainable development. It discusses the opportunities, challenges, and limitations associated with the use of ICT in development initiatives and encourages students to critically reflect on the impact of technology in different societal contexts addressing the issues of digital divide.
Before 31.07.2026:
The course provides an introduction to the field of ICT for development (ICT4D). The course also deals with the role of f ICT in various development contexts, and the impact of ICT to development. During the course possibilities, opportunities, challenges and problems related to the field of ICT4D will be discussed.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
• Demonstrate a general understanding of the field of ICT4D.
• Identify key concepts, themes, and issues related to ICT4D.
• Critically analyse the opportunities, challenges, and impacts of ICT for development.
• Acquire forward-looking knowledge on emerging technologies and leverage frontier technologies for development impact

After the course the students should have a general understanding about the field of ICT4D. The students should also be able to identify important aspects related to ICT4D, and they should also be able to critically analyse the role of ICT for development.
