Description
Course is structured around the book Biological Oceanography of the Baltic Sea (eds SNoeijs et al.) 2017 and cover the following topics; biodiversity in soft sediment and rocky shore communities, invasive species, ecotoxicology, planktonic communities, soft bottom benthos, blue mussel reefs, the Zostera ecosystem, the Fucus ecosystem, ice communities, sediment biogeochemistry and conservation & management
Learning outcomes
After the course the student should be able to:
1) Describe the ecological features of the Baltic Sea, biodiversity patterns and key habitat and understand the linkages between structure and function and between environmental threats and management
2) Present orally a specific topic at seminars (work in pairs)
3) Summarise a specific seminar theme into an essay (work in pairs)
4) Use online digital tools to summarise different environmental threats and their regional differences in the Baltic Sea.
