The topics covered by the course include such as: What are the differences in the physical (the perspective of the natural sciences) and the mental (humanistic, psychological, social scientific perspectives) ways of studying the world? What is the mind-body problem? What are mental states? How are the mental (psychological) and physical (biological) ways of investigating humans connected? What is consciousness? Can there be a science of consciousness? What is the problem of free will? Can we view humans as autonomous, free agents within a scientific worldview? How are human actions explained? Are they causal explanations? Or are human actions irreducibly goal-directed? How do reasons explain? \r\n\r\nThe first meeting will contain a lecture on the topics of the seminar and instructions on how to complete the course. The following five meetings will acquaint you with five central philosophical issues/debates of the theme of the seminar.
