Description

In the Doctoral Programme in Sports and Health Sciences, the specialisation can be either sport and exercise sciences or health sciences. The specialisation is selected at the application stage.

In the specialisation of sport and exercise sciences, the target degrees are:

  • Doctor of Sports Science (D. Sport Sci.) or
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

In the specialisation of health sciences, the target degrees are:

  • Doctor of Health Sciences (D. Health Sci.) or
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

The degree includes a dissertation and 40 ECTS credits of other doctoral studies. At least half of the minimum number of credits for doctoral studies must be discipline specific studies. Other doctoral studies also include general transferable skills and elective studies.

To be awarded a doctorate, a student admitted for postgraduate education shall: 1) complete the postgraduate studies; 2) demonstrate independent and critical thinking in the student’s field of research; and 3) prepare and publicly defend a doctoral dissertation, or supply any other public thesis project or final project stipulated by the university. Learning outcomes

After completing their doctoral degree, doctoral students will be able to
  1. plan, carry out, and evaluate scientific research using key methods in their field in a way that produces new scientific knowledge and promotes national and international discussion in the field, and communicate the results orally and in writing to different target groups
  2. analyze and evaluate their own field of research and its societal significance in depth, including in an international context
  3. apply and evaluate the key research methods in their own field critically and independently
  4. describe, analyze, and apply scientific theory in research in their own field
  5. act in accordance with the principles of research ethics and justify their research decisions with scientific arguments
