Description

Course Description

In this course, students practice everyday situations and skills and make use of the language learning opportunities offered by the Finnish language environment. The course deepens the content of the previous intensive course and focuses on putting those skills into practice.

Core Content

  • routine everyday situations

  • introduction to the language of one’s own field of study

  • the role of the environment in language learning

  • language learning and compensation strategies at the early stages of language acquisition 

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student

  • is able to search for and select relevant information from short written texts

  • is able to identify main ideas and key words in routine situations and act, with support, in recurring everyday and service situations in a secondlanguage environment

  • recognizes opportunities for language learning offered by the surrounding environment

  • is able, in familiar or recurring situations, to go beyond their current language skills with support by using compensation strategies

  • is aware of their own learning strategies and multilingual resources

  • is familiar with current events and customs related to Finnish everyday life
