Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student
- understands the basic concepts and foundations of safety management and their relationship to broader organisational leadership
- recognises key theories, models and principles applied in safety management across different sectors
- can describe how safety is managed both proactively and reactively in everyday operations
- understands the role of organisational culture, workplace interaction and leadership practices in shaping safety
- is able to evaluate safety management practices in different organisations and identify areas for development
Additional information
This course examines safety management as an integral part of an organisation’s overall management and risk management practices. The course introduces key theories, models and sector‑specific approaches used in safety management, and explores how safety is managed in practice across different industries. Emphasis is placed on human‑centred and organisational approaches, the development of safety culture, and integrating safety into everyday decision‑making.

Description:
From spring 2028 onwards. The course is completed by attending teaching. The course includes lectures and exercises.
Evaluation criteria:
The assessment criteria may include practical exercises, written assignments, project work, and exams. The assessment targets and their weightings will be specified in connection with the implementation.

Description:
From spring 2028 onwards. An alternative completion method is available for students who, for specific reasons, cannot complete the regular mode of study (e.g., language of instruction, living elsewhere, recommendation for individual study arrangements). Students must contact the teacher before registering if they need an alternative method.

The assessment criteria may include practical exercises, written assignments, project work, and exams. The assessment targets and their weightings will be specified in connection with the implementation.
