Description
The course focuses on how global Anthropocene changes, such as climate change, fishing, pollution, eutrophication, land and sea exploitation, marine traffic, affect the seas and the marine ecosystems. We will also explore how future scenarios and how the marine environmental work (management, conservation, policy) on a global scale works.

• Define central terms and concepts within the topic.
• Describe how global changes affect marine environments, ecosystems and organisms.
• Describe key aspects and players in the global marine environmental work.

• To independently seek relevant information, critically assess and synthesize scientific text within the topic.
• To express yourself and discuss within the topic, and ask questions about global changes and their effect on the marine environment.

Additional information
The course alternates between being given on site/on campus and self-study (with some virtual course meetings). The course is given as self-study course in Autumn 2022, and as The target group is master's students, primarily major subject students. However, the course is well suited for exchange students and students from other subjects interested in learning more about ecological and societal global change. The course also links to Åbo Akademi University's research profile The Sea and its interdisciplinary research.
