Independent study based on assigned readings on physical activity in preventing and treating metabolic and cardiovascular conditions.

  • Pathophysiology of numerous metabolic and cardiovascular conditions, and mechanisms by which physical activity can influence them.
  • Role of physical training in the prevention of the above-mentioned conditions.
  • Acute and chronic effects of physical activity in persons with the above-mentioned conditions.
  • Evidence-based guidelines on physical activity in the prevention and treatment of the above-mentioned conditions.
  • Exercise counselling of persons with the above-mentioned conditions.
  • Possible adverse effects of physical activity and their prevention in persons with the above-mentioned conditions.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students:

  • can explain the general pathophysiological features of numerous metabolic and cardiovascular conditions, and how physical activity can influence these processes
  • can identify the effects of physical activity in the prevention of the above-mentioned conditions in detail
  • can describe the acute and chronic effects of physical activity in persons with the above-mentioned conditions in detail
  • can describe evidence-based guidelines on physical activity in the treatment and prevention of the above-mentioned conditions in detail
  • can explain guidelines on physical activity relevant to exercise counselling for persons with the above-mentioned conditions in detail
