KEMI4025 Characterization of Energy Materials (5 cr)

Cooperation network course

Network: FITech Energy studies for Master’s students

Available for: Doctoral studies, Master's students and Bachelor's and Master's students

This course is offered through the Network for Fitech Energy 2. These studies are available for master's and doctoral degree students studying in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science and the Faculty of Information Technology.

More about the network

Description

Characterization techniques for surfaces and thin films (surface –IR, ATR-FTIR, UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy, SERS, ellipsometry) Imaging techniques like AFM, SEM and TEM. Techniques for determining the size of nanoparticles and macromolecules (light scattering, ultracentrifugation, electrophoresis, and viscosity measurements) basics in electrochemical characterization. Thermal analysis.

Learning outcomes

In the course, you will learn about different characterization methods usable for energy materials. These concern the study of mechanical, electrical, optical, magnetic and thermal properties of materials. After the course, you will have acquired tools to enable the choice of appropriate characterization methods for specific material characterization needs as well as to critically evaluate the obtained results.
