- Structure of monosaccharides, oligosaccharides and polysaccharides
- Formation of the glycosidic linkage and oligosaccharide synthesis
- Structure of aromatic biomass molecules (lignin, lignans och other phenolic compounds)
- Biomass molecules as a raw material in organic synthesis
- Applications of NMR spectroscopy in structural elucidation of biomass molecules

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After successfully completing the course, the students are able to:
- Describe the structure of different monosaccharides, oligosaccharides and polysaccharides
- Design synthesis routes for monosaccharide derivatives and oligosaccharides
- Describe the structure of aromatic biomass molecules (lignin, lignans and other phenolic compounds)
- Understand the role of biomass molecules as a raw material in organic synthesis
- Analyze and interpret NMR spectra of biomass molecules
- Read and analyze scientific literature related to biomass molecules
